SOMEONE ELSE WROTE ME WANDA FINDING HERSELF (with a side order of Wanda/Natasha)

I'm watching Fort Boyard.

Like every time I want worldbuilding. It is such a fascinating thing to contemplate worldbuilding for, though! I think I liked it a bit better when there was less worldbuilding on the show, just "here are some immortal tiger headed people with really weird challenges WHO NEVER SPEAK" and what not. (Oh, hey, I could nominate it for yuletide. Note to self: nominate Maîtres des ténèbres, Félindra, Blanche and Rouge in "Fort Boyard" for yuletide.)

Also, I would have loved to be a fly on the wall when the idea for the show got pitched. "Let's refurbish a 19th century sea prison by turning each cell into a gameshow challenge, have candidates collect actual gold coins and do acrobatics in mid-air over live tigers. The tigers are not negotiable."

I edited the post I made about my Great Britain trip this August. (Short version: car no, England yes, still looking for recs.) Basically, I am learning that I know fuck-all about planning month-long trips on my own*. It's starting to take some sort of reasonable form? Maybe? Sort of?

Anyway. Anyone in Great Britain during august want to have a meet-up?

* Look, I can barely manage to motivate myself to go to the Louvre tomorrow, because I haveto go before the crowds and that means waking up early. I want to see the exhibit, but I don't wanna wake up, I am so tired lately. (I'm doing some stuff that takes a lot of time -- I get home ~9PM if I'm lucky --  plus there are emotional upheavals, it's fun times.) I don't wanna anwser that PM even though I should, I don't wanna go the Louvre even though I know I'll love it, I just wanna sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep forever but I cannot. :(

I DID IT! I told myself I'd finish and post this story before Captain America Civil War came out, and I did.

Hypothesis in scarlet (3765 words) by sevenofspade
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Marvel Cinematic Universe
Rating: Not Rated
Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Characters: Wanda Maximoff, James "Bucky" Barnes
Additional Tags: Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, Avengers: Age of Ultron (Movie)
Summary: Don't bring a formerly brainwashed assassin to a mutant fight.

Way back before Age of Ultron came out, there were many stories working on the premise that the Winter Soldier would be found before that movie. This is a take on what the events of that movie might have gone, had this been true.

More notes )

Beta by the amazing chiiyo86 who I really need to stop asking for beta the day before deadlines -- but for that I wold need to finish writing fics before deadlines and look I done a stupid staying up late last night finishing it because I did not think this through.

Anyway, I wrote fic, yay.

dhampyresa: (Natasha and red)
(I am having way too much fun translating French movie titles back into English. Is this what being a Babel fish feels like?)

Anyway, I saw Age of Ultron with a group of fannish friends yesterday.

The version I saw is the 2D VOSTFR one (if there are differences between the versions different countries got, the way there was for Winter Soldier, I saw the French version). As usual, I can't speak for any other versions.

Short version: I was entertained, but I have some reservations.

Long version )

So there you have it, those are my thoughts on Age of Ultron.

Most of the conversation I had with the fandom folk revolved around the movie, but we did talk about some other things, like ongoing fandom events and dead Romans. Me and one of the fandom folk have taken to texting each other whenever we spot dead Romans in the wild, it's great fun.
dhampyresa: (Sarcasm shall be the way)
So I went to see Thor 2 in VOSTFR 3D.

In a non-spoilery way here's what I thought: It was great! The images are really pretty and well worth the big screen (but maybe not the 3D).

Also, I think "Le Soldat d'Hiver" sounds better and is a better French translation of "Winter Soldier" than "Le Soldat de l'Hiver". Maybe that's just me though, because they're using "Le Soldat de l'Hiver" as the French title of Captain America 2. The trailer we got was slightly different than this one, in that Black Widow's "Too shy or too scared?" line was shortened to "Too shy?".

Props to the subtitles team, they had a few goofs, but that was okay because they had correct use of tu/vous through-out the movie (and the trailer). FUCKING FINALLY. Ill-use of tu/vous is one of the reasons I watch things in vostfr instead of vf. It's less jarring to read than hear. And okay, I'll be the first to admit that the tu/vous distinction is a very cultural and/or personal and/or context-specific thing and that it's definitely hard to pin-point the point where tu shifts into vous and vice versa, but come on, those guys are paid proffessionals, they shouldn't have people say 'tu' to their commanding officers! (Looking at you, Stargate SG1 dub, looking at you and judging.) /end rant

Here's the spoilery version, kept as vague as possible )

In other news, I've joined [livejournal.com profile] wrisomifu and have written 2K+ (including this post and some computer code) today and 1957 words of story + notes. I'm quite happy with myself!

Iron May

It's May 1, so I have some mugget around the house and I saw iron Man 3, as you do.

First, the mugget/lily of the valley, because it's a French tradtion.

Next, Iron Man 3 )

Tl;dr: I loved it, and now I feel like editing/rewriting that Good Omens/MCU crossover fic, because damn, Pepper, you be awesome and your hair is redder and more fabulous than ever before.
dhampyresa: (Default)
I've been planning to see Avengers since it came out on April 25. I was originally supposed to see it on the following saturday, the next tuesday and the saturday after that. It didn't work out so well. Each of the people I had plans with cancelled on me at least once and up to five times (five times). It was always for good reasons too, so I can't really blame them, but it's still kind of ridiculous.

I guess it'll make a funny story one day.

Spoilers Assemble )

tl;dr: IT WAS AWESOME! but I wish there'd been more women.

Also, I got the promotional comic for free. Note to Panini: Episode 5 of Young Avengers: the Children's Crusade is not a good tie-in comic for the movie or even a good gateway to Marvel comics, as it opens with way too many not-introduced characters hitting each other in the face.
dhampyresa: (Default)
I'm fairly close to finishing a Pepper-centric Avengers/Good Omens fusion fic, which is to say that Pepper from Good Omens grows up to be Pepper from Avengers movie-verse. The main/PoV characters are Pepper, Darcy and Natasha. I'm expecting the fic to be between 8k and 9k when I'm done. I'm mostly looking for plot, pacing and characterisation, but anything would be good.

Is anyone interested?

ETA: The story is now finished at 8500 words give or take. This means both that a) I wrote roughly 1500 words today and b) I finished writing it before the Avengers movie came out as I had planned to. I'm stupidly happy about both those things.
