I need to process this.

I remember being 11-12-13 at the library, staring at The Left Hand of Darkness on the shelf and yearning for it in an almost physical way all while knowing I couldn't borrow it because people would know. What they would know was unclear and frightening then, but the very existence of the book brought comfort, a form of clarity and hope. The yearning for a bigger world never left and I wouldn't have it any other way.

My favourite quote of hers is "We live in capitalism. Its power seems inescapable. So did the divine right of kings."

I love that quote, too.

And she seems to have touched so many lives! For me The Left Hand of Darkness is actually a book I've grown into. I've appreciated it more the older I've gotten--it's like it unfolds and contains more.
